Our History

Initiative Women into Leadership (IWiL) was founded in 2017 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable development and advancement of women in leadership positions. Behind IWiL stands a network of distinguished leaders from business, academia, culture, healthcare, and society, united by a shared commitment to increasing female representation at the highest levels of leadership.

At the heart of the initiative is the cross-mentoring program, which creates an inspiring environment for learning and growth through the exchange between experienced leaders and emerging talent—delivering a measurable impact on participants’ personal and professional development.

An engaged Advisory Board and Executive Board, supported by representatives from renowned organizations, help drive IWiL’s strategic growth and further expand its national and international reach.

Sabine Hansen - Founder and Driving Force

Sabine Hansen has been instrumental in shaping IWiL from the very beginning. Since its founding in 2017, she has dedicated her energy, experience, and passion to building the initiative and creating the strong foundation on which IWiL stands today. For eight years, she served as Chair of the Executive Board, bringing mentors and mentees together and tirelessly supporting women on their path to leadership.

Under her leadership, IWiL grew into one of Germany’s most recognized cross-mentoring programs. She established key structures, initiated strategic partnerships, and continuously expanded the network. As a visionary and pioneer, she opened countless doors and laid the groundwork for the strength, reach, and impact that define IWiL today.
